Do The Solid Hand Creams Count As Liquid When Flying?

Not ours!

Our hand creams are completely solid, which means they sail right through airport security without a problem. No little plastic bags, no frantic repacking at the last minute, and most importantly, no risk of having them confiscated at security.

This is something I always love telling our customers, particularly the many travellers who visit our Edinburgh shops from all over the world.

Anyone who has ever had their carefully packed toiletries taken away at an airport knows how frustrating it is. You’ve spent time choosing your favourite skincare, squeezing everything into a tiny plastic bag, only to watch a security officer drop your favourite moisturiser into the bin without a second thought.

That’s why our solid hand cream bars are such a great travel companion, they completely sidestep the problem.

The Rules on Liquids in Hand Luggage

Most people are familiar with the liquid restrictions at airports, but in case you’re not, here’s a quick refresher. When flying with hand luggage, any liquid, gel, or cream must be in a container no larger than 100ml, and all of them combined must fit inside a single, clear, resealable plastic bag.

This means that traditional hand creams, whether in tubes or jars, fall under the liquid restriction. If you accidentally pack one that’s larger than 100ml, security will take it away. The same goes for face creams, serums, oils, and even some solid-looking balms that have a soft consistency.

I had a brand-new tube of toothpaste confiscated by a smirking teenager one day at Edinburgh Airport because it was over 100 grams. I was not happy.

Why Our Hand Cream Bars Are Different

Because our hand cream bars are completely solid, they don’t count as a liquid. That means you can carry them in your hand luggage without a second thought. There’s no worrying about size limits, no faffing around with plastic bags, and absolutely no risk of them being confiscated.

This makes them ideal not just for everyday travel, but particularly for long-haul flights, where skin tends to dry out due to the cabin air.

Instead of fumbling for a tiny tube of moisturiser that may or may not have made it past security, you can simply take out your hand cream bar and warm it between your palms. The natural butters and oils will melt gently into your skin, keeping your hands soft and comfortable throughout your journey.

The Many Advantages of Solid Hand Cream

Beyond the travel benefits, there are plenty of other reasons why switching to a solid hand cream is a great idea.

First, they’re completely spill-proof. If you’ve ever opened your bag to find that a bottle of hand cream has exploded mid-flight, you’ll know how much of a nightmare that can be. With a solid bar, there’s no risk of leaks or mess.

When I started this business in 2010, I didn’t know that exploding creams in handbags was a thing!

Secondly, they last much longer than traditional creams. A single hand cream bar goes a surprisingly long way, as you only need a small amount for each application. Unlike a pump bottle or tube, where you often end up using more than you need, a bar gives you just the right amount every time.

Finally, they’re far more eco-friendly. Traditional hand creams often come in plastic tubes that are difficult to recycle, whereas our hand cream bars are completely plastic-free. Less waste, better for the planet, and no annoying packaging to deal with—what’s not to love?

The Final Word

If you’ve ever had skincare confiscated at airport security, you’ll know how frustrating it can be. That’s why a solid hand cream bar is such a great solution. It’s compact, mess-free, long-lasting, and best of all, it completely sidesteps the liquid restrictions when flying.

So, next time you’re packing for a trip, you can leave the plastic bag of liquids behind and travel with a hand cream that’s designed to go wherever you go, without a single issue at security.
