Do You Sell Heather Soaps?

Unfortunately, no. Here's why...

I would personally love to create a Heather Soap, but the simple truth is, I cannot find a natural heather essential oil anywhere. If you know where to find it, please share!

Why No Heather Essential Oil?

Essential oils are typically extracted from plants using steam distillation, cold pressing, or solvent extraction, methods that preserve the natural properties of the plant. The issue with heather (Calluna vulgaris) is that it does not yield an essential oil in any meaningful quantity.

While heather has been used in traditional remedies for centuries, mainly in teas and tinctures, it does not produce enough volatile oils for commercial extraction. I’ve looked on several occasions but all that I can find are synthetic fragrance oils, which we refuse to use in anything.

Every "heather-scented" soap on the market today relies on synthetic fragrance oils, rather than true plant-derived ingredients

Why We Don’t Use Synthetic Fragrances

Our ethos has always been simple, 100% natural ingredients only. Synthetic fragrance oils may mimic the scent of heather, but they do not come from the plant itself. Instead, they are created in laboratories using chemical compounds designed to replicate the aroma.

These artificial fragrances often contain petrochemicals, phthalates, and other additives that we prefer to keep out of our formulations. I once read somewhere that some of the synthetic ingredients on the market today are so complex in nature, that it’s uncertain of their long-term effects.

Personally, I wouldn’t want to put something like that on my skin and I’m sure our customers don’t want to either.

We believe that skincare should be as close to nature as possible. If we cannot find a natural, plant-derived way to incorporate an ingredient, we simply will not include it.

The Search Continues

Heather is one of Scotland’s most iconic wildflowers, covering the Highlands, moors, and rolling hills in its soft purple bloom. The idea of capturing that beautiful, earthy, slightly floral scent in a soap is something we would love to bring to life. If a true heather essential oil ever becomes available, we will be the first to work with it.

But for now, the Heather Soap remains on the drawing board.

We are just as disappointed as our customers that we cannot make a true heather-scented soap, but we will not compromise on quality or authenticity. Until the day comes when a natural heather essential oil is discovered, we will wait.

Because when we do make a Heather Soap, it will be done properly, naturally, and beautifully, just like our others.
